An interactive session focusing on social and emotional learning for young struggling readers. For children with learning differences, schoolwork is already challenging, often requiring special accommodations and services; SEL is a vital component to ensure self-confidence and academic success.

This session will explore the importance of nurturing social-emotional learning themes, such as growth-mindset, a sense of belonging and resilience in students who are struggling readers. It is critical to start this work with students as young as possible. We will show examples of SuperDville videos and the companion curriculum to engage participants in discussions around SEL themes. Parts of the white paper written by Dr.Melissa Orkin from Dr. Maryanne Wolf’s Center for Reading and Language Research at Tufts University will be used to explain which SEL themes are particularly relevant to kids with LD.
