Listening Unlocks Student Potential

Literacy is the foundation of learning. Yet 65% of fourth graders in the U.S. read below proficiency levels and are 400% more likely to drop out of high school. For the most vulnerable students – Black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), low income, multilingual learners and students with learning disabilities – the crisis is even more acute, and has persisted for decades.
At Learning Ally, we believe that listening is vital to learning. From the youngest age, children learn by listening and then by engaging in meaningful conversations. By equipping early and struggling learners with our ebooks to access their curriculum, literature, and popular titles, we help open up learning for millions of students. This is our passion.

We help school systems and education leaders address the equity gap through evidence-based, interactive professional development, communities of practice and programs that span early assessment, intervention, accommodation, and research-based instruction. Our professional learning programs help educators identify and prevent learning issues, allowing struggling readers to become independent and engaged learners who can achieve socially, emotionally and academically–regardless of background or learning difference.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation and Learning Ally have united to bolster literacy and education across communities. Together we have created free resources for families and educators that support building literacy at home and honing reading instruction in the classroom.
