As we transition into our remote and hybrid models, it is important as early childhood educators to stay grounded in what we know is best practice. Play does not need to include specific toys; play comes from within the child. Supporting families by understanding this is crucial as they are working with their child remotely and want the best for their child. We as the educators need to show families how play will help their literacy development.

About the Presenter:

My name is Lauren Napolitano and I am currently an Assistant Principal in New York City. For the last 6 years, I have been supervising Pre-K Centers in my District under the Pre-K for All initiative set forth in our city. I was fortunate enough to be a part of this revolutionary work and see how a school is opened from the ground up. Prior to that, I was an Early Childhood teacher working primarily with students whose home language was other than English. All of these experiences have helped shape me as an educator.
