A more perfect union. Volume 1 To 1877 documents in U.S. history

by Boller Paul F.

Synopsis

This reader provides a wealth of political and diplomatic primary source documents, including many selections illustrated with photographs. Each document is preceded by a headnote that places the document within a historical context. Headnotes conclude with Questions to Consider, which stimulate comprehension of the document and provide comparative analysis of related selections. Volume I has been expanded to include several new selections such as poetry by Anne Bradstreet, a "Great Awakening" sermon by Jonathan Edwards, and a resolution by Boston journeymen carpenters. Additional coverage in Volume II highlights the Monroe Doctrine, labor rights and songs of labor organizations, Richard Nixon s impeachment, and responses to the attacks of September 11, 2001.
