European civilization experienced a rebirth in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries which not only produced great works of art ranging from Leonardo da Vinci to Shakespeare but also encouraged explorers to travel the earth trading with, and sometimes subduing, peoples in Africa and the Americas. Europe's dynamism was matched by the Ottoman Turkish Empire and the Mughal Empire in India. This text explores the profound changes both in Europe and across the globe.
