Students with Dyslexia or Blindness Read Over 1.5 Million Pages this Summer!

The leaves are changing, boots are making appearances, and school is back in session.
So, why are we talking about summer reading?
Because we're
so excited
about all of the hard work
over 1,600
Learning Ally
students
put in over the summer so they would be ahead of the game this fall! We held the nation's only
EAR READING
(audiobooks) challenge specifically designed for students with print disabilities, like dyslexia or visual impairment. It's called
Summer Reading Together
, and this was our 2nd annual year! In just 3 short months, our students read over
1.5 million pages!
WOW!!
Here's what they had to say:
"When you get a good book or series, it's almost impossible to stop reading. Sometimes I stay up all night in the summer listening to books."
~ Robbie, August winner
"The challenge was a fun way to get kids into reading because kids love to look at
Instagram
and put pictures on Instagram, and I wanted to win something. I like listening to books because I can hear hard words."
~ Eva, Instagram Challenge Winner
"I like
Learning Ally
because the books are read by real people. Computer voices disrupt the flow of the story. I like the app, it works well and the new app looks so amazing!"
~ Robbie, August Winner
"From a mom's perspective, Learning Ally and the summer reading challenge has helped make reading enjoyable for Eva and takes the stress out of reading print by herself."
~ Eva's Mom, Instagram Challenge Winner
We also had a BIG name encouraging our kids
- Malcolm Mitchell
of the
New England Patriots
! He even dropped by our
Athens, Georgia
studio to record a copy of his own book,
The Magician's Hat
! If you
download
it via
Learning Ally
, you'll be listening to an NFL player READ to you! So cool! It's wonderful to have the support of star athletes to encourage everyone to keep reading!
Teachers, we also have a
curriculum guide
for Malcolm's book, so you can use this as part of your classroom instruction. You can download it from
LearningAlly.org
.
Our winners stretch from Hawaii to Florida and all the states in-between! For a full list of the summer's winners, click on

We can't wait to see you next year! Ask your school to sign up for our next challenge, the
Great Reading Games
!
Learning Ally
is a national non-profit dedicated to helping students access amazing literature. Find out how you can get involved by visiting
