This photo showcases a wonderful event that took place on May 19, 1961, when, on behalf of Recording for the Blind, Inc., President John F. Kennedy presented a Scholastic Achievement Award to Helen Vivian Aareskjold in the Oval Office at The White House, along with award recipient Cheryl Lynn Martin and her mother, Mrs. James Martin. The president of the organization at that time, Mrs. Frederick B. Payne, was also presented to President Kennedy at the ceremony. Today, our mission continues—to empower students who learn differently to succeed in school and beyond.
