After the Civil War, many black men enlisted in the Army & were assigned duty on the frontier, putting them in conflict with native peoples trying to keep their homelands. Encounters with Crazy Horse, Quanah Parker, Sitting Bull, & Geronimo are among those described. Students will find the irony of this situation as compelling as the writing.
