Joscie is a first year at the University of Vermont, a member of the Honors College, and is an Environmental Science major in the Rubinstein School. She loves working with wildlife, studying ecology, backpacking, skiing, and rock climbing. Additionally, she has won awards for her art and poetry. In elementary school, Joscie was diagnosed with dyslexia and was constantly frustrated with school. Her weak symbol imagery made reading, spelling, and mathematics a road block which caused her to doubt if she would be seen as smart or a professional.
Joscie is excited to be pursuing a degree in science because she hopes to make an ethical impact on our natural world, and this is possible because of the support of her mother and many incredible teachers. A disability that was once called a limitation has helped Joscie see the world through a different lens and she is so grateful for organizations like Learning Ally who make literature and text accessible for students like her.
