November 18, 2026 | Fully virtual | 90 minutes | Free for your team

What if your team could feel, in real time, what it’s like for a child to sit in a classroom and struggle to read? Not because they can’t learn, but because they learn differently.
That’s what happens in the first few minutes of a Learning Ally volunteer experience, and it’s why the people who try it so often return to help.
On Wednesday, November 18, from 1:00 – 2:30 PM ET, we’re inviting corporate teams, employee resource groups, parents, educators, and individual volunteers to join us for a live, interactive virtual event. This isn’t your typical volunteer activity. You’ll step into the shoes of a student with dyslexia, then use what you’ve learned to help create something that reaches real classrooms.
What you’ll do
- Experience the challenge: Literacy Simulation. We’ll kick things off with an immersive simulation that replicates what it feels like to live with dyslexia. You’ll get a first-hand look at the anxiety, frustration, and perseverance students experience every single day. It’s the kind of empathy that’s impossible to build from a slide deck.
- Be part of the solution: Audiobook Quality Assurance. Then you’ll shift from understanding the problem to helping solve it. You’ll support the final step in creating Learning Ally’s human-read audiobooks, which are used by students in more than 24,000 schools nationwide. You’ll listen to audiobook segments just as our students would, flagging anything that disrupts the reading experience, like mispronunciations, awkward pacing, or distracting background noise. If it wouldn’t empower or inspire you, it won’t work for our learners either.

Why this matters right now
Reading differences like dyslexia affect roughly 1 in 5 students. That means there’s very likely a student like this in a classroom your company already touches, whether through your employees’ kids, your communities, or your school partnerships. Yet many of these students still don’t get the support they need.
For 78 years, our female-founded nonprofit has supported students, teachers, and schools. Your 90 minutes plugs directly into work that is already changing outcomes at scale.
Don’t just take our word for it
“With Learning Ally, we’re able to engage employees all over the country to make a meaningful impact. Our employees’ experiences have been transformational and eye-opening. We know that our partnership with Learning Ally to develop education solutions has an immediate benefit to thousands of students nationwide.”
Libby Richards, Lenovo
“Thank you so much for being such an incredible partner and hosting such impactful virtual volunteer events. Several feedback comments thanked us for the virtual opportunity. It really impacted our associates.”
Kaitlyn Bell, Capital One
“It was deeply impactful and far more emotional than I expected, in the best possible way. I felt uncomfortable, overwhelmed, and deeply empathetic. It made me reflect on what children with learning difficulties go through every day. The simulation was brilliantly designed and left a lasting impression.”
Mark Harrington, Deployment Engineer Team Lead
Companies that join us often walk away with more than a volunteer hour. They leave with a new lens on inclusion, accessibility, and impact in their own workplace.

Who should join?
- Corporate teams and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). Great for team building, Corporate Social Responsibility goals, and employee engagement, with no travel and no cost.
- Parents and caregivers. If your child learns differently, this is a chance to understand their experience and to help make books more accessible for students like them.
- Family and community members. See firsthand how audiobook technology supports readers in the classroom.
