Letter from a Grateful Mom

Categories: Blind or Visually Impaired, Parenting

Avery We couldn't resist sharing this incredible thank you note from Maryland-based Dorrie P., mother of Learning Ally member Avery. She sent in a picture of Avery listening to one of her favorite audiobooks and tells a little about their struggle with reading before they found Learning Ally. “Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, is all I can say. After struggling to help my daughter find a solution to her reading problems at school for the last five years, we found you! “Avery is 10 years old and has Myasthenia Gravis, a neuro muscular disease that causes her double vision and muscle weakness. Reading has always been a source of stress and anxiety in our house. Before finding Learning Ally, Avery was not able to read an entire book on her own, ever! Now, with a forward thinking teacher and school principal, she is able to bring her ipod to school and feel good about being able to keep up with her peers in reading group. “I cry just thinking about what Learning Ally is doing to her self esteem, not to mention how reassured I am knowing she will be able to enter middle school with confidence, not dread about keeping up with her classes. “Please keep up the good work, and know that you have made a major impact in the direction of the life of a very wonderful little girl. “P.S. -- Here is a picture of Avery reading. Currently she is loving her new book…The White Giraffe by Saint John Lauren. Giraffes are her favorite animal. Her teacher told her she loves that book too! We are happy to share our story. It has been a long road to where we are today!"
