Position Summary:

The Director will lead solution development and management for Learning Ally’s Educator Experience for the K-12 market. He/she will:

  • Deepen our understanding of how educators use Learning Ally materials in support of personalizing education for struggling readers with emphasis on meeting K-12 revenue targets. Use a combination of school relationship experience, qualitative and quantitative research, customer feedback, and data-mining to make educator solution design decisions. Commit to develop forward-thinking, multi-year roadmaps.
  • Optimize Educator Experience of Learning Ally solutions through understanding challenges endemic to K-12 school and district environments. In partnership with VP Engagement Success, plan and execute product development to solve installation, implementation, utilization, and scale issues.
  • Identify and implement new features to improve Learning Ally’s digital products aimed at educators with an emphasis on driving usage and acquiring new institutional memberships. Analyze, design, and conceptualize features for review and feedback among internal stakeholders. Evaluate, prioritize, recommend, and implement new feature development based on strategic goals and budget.
  • Lead software development teams through implementation and release schedule via precise articulation of product requirements and feature specifications. Provide critical feedback on pre-release builds in order to identify bugs for regression and further progress towards launch.
  • Partner with field-based groups, including Sales, Marketing, Account Management, and Delivery teams, to identify enhancements for the Educator Portal and prioritize fixes for consideration and release.
  • Support and, when appropriate, lead professional learning for customers, specific internal teams, and/or all-staff release training to ensure all teams effectively communicate the solution’s value proposition and features as related to educator experience.
  • Deliver insights and understanding about Learning Ally educators, particularly around utilization, by working closely with data warehouse personnel and tools to create reports and analysis as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Learning Ally solutions deliver an educator experience that empowers educators to serve students with print learning disabilities and advances our understanding of who our educators are and what they need. In collaboration with the Director of Solution Strategy and Design as well as the other members of the solutions team, effectively identify, prioritize, describe, and organize product feature sets into a product roadmap charting 3, 6, 12, and 24 month release intervals.
    • Standard: Achieve utilization and revenue goals as defined for educator markets.
  • Lead software development and product teams to ensure new product specifications are maintained and well-articulated. Prepare use cases, draft business requirements, guide UX teams towards compelling front-end design, participate in unit and acceptance testing of pre-production software as needed, and collect end-user feedback.
    • Standard: Current and future software fully documented and scoped with agreement among product stakeholders.
  • Lead requirements gathering from sales, account management and delivery, and marketing teams, to identify and prioritize feature development. Work closely with technology partners in order to articulate requirements for new features and assist in their delivery as needed.
    • Standard: Stakeholders have needs met and ongoing insight into current and new feature development as well as a roadmap for new reports defined and kept current.
  • Own the vision of the educator experience to ensure our educators have an experience that leads to implementation with fidelity. Lead educators to effectively ensure Access, Launch, Progress Monitor and Succeed.
    • Standard: Discovery of techniques, campaigns, or product features improve engagement among newly created educators in the Educator Portal.
  • Exceed revenue and reach goals by activating educators in partnership with Sales, Account Management and Delivery, as well as Marketing towards supporting and driving initiatives that achieve organizational goals for usage and revenue. In support of Sales team, ensure support and training to ensure understanding of how the educator experience is instrumental in driving successful implementation. In coordination with Marketing, collaborate around designing compelling messaging that raises awareness of the benefits of the Educator Portal and key feature sets. In collaboration with Account Management and Delivery teams, develop tools that will allow staff to quickly identify members in need of engagement based on analysis of books ordered, last login dates, students added, or other data-driven indications of the need for intervention.
    • Standard: Deployment of professional learning and messaging campaigns aimed internally and externally extolling the benefits of Educator Portal and which successfully drive revenue as well as improved usage of the product
  • Ensure Learning Ally is producing the titles our members need, particularly around our educator markets, with consideration towards new types of materials that we may need to deliver to our membership. Ensure Learning Ally’s annual front list attracts new members and engages current membership base. Discover and utilize member insights in order to ensure that titles identified for production align with our member demand including high-priority curricula.
    • Standard: Materials are integral to schools and members (such as original source documents, state driver manuals, titles from high-priority curricula, and high-interest popular fiction) are accounted for in our production process and are discoverable by educators and appear in key educator experiences.
  • Partner with Manager of Student Experience to deepen our understanding of how students with a print disability use our platforms and books, and how this behavior can change based on educator needs, the material, or subject being studied. Understand the influence and roles of other stakeholders, particularly around educators, in selecting content for our student end users.
    • Standard: Regular cross-functional working group meetings and at least bi-annual delivery of insights into member behavior provided to key staff.
  • Ensure ongoing focus on accessibility needs to help drive assessment of the Educator Portal’s suitability for all educators. Educate/share knowledge with software development and product teams staff on best practices for meeting accessibility needs and using screen readers with our products.
    • Standard: Ensure Educator Portal meets Learning Ally standards around accessibility.
  • Foster a working environment that supports Learning Ally’s cultural values. Act as a role model and engage in discussions and feedback to ensure the intent of the culture statement is integrated into day-to-day activities, planning, and communications.
  • Ensure all our products are section 508 Compliant and meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  • Participate in other Learning Ally activities as required to achieve organizational goals

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education or related field required.
  • 5+ years’ direct work experience understanding the needs of the educator market and assisting in the development of digital products. Direct experience as a K-12 educator required; 2+ years understanding the needs of students with disabilities and their challenges with assistive technology.
  • Must be conversant in the software development lifecycle including the stages of ideation, analysis, design, implementation, launch, and user feedback.
  • Ability to drive the product development process through ownership of key artifacts including business requirements, use cases, UI prototypes, and schedule. Experience in the agile software development process.
  • Knowledge of current K-12 literacy education products (including SIS and LMS) and market needs.
  • Experience in gathering and transforming customer needs into an actionable product vision and requirements definition.
  • Must be conversant in data-driven inquiry and demonstrated experience in applying a research-driven framework to identify user needs and make sound product design decisions.
  • Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative research methodology preferred.
  • Ability to navigate shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience in training staff and customers in literacy content, features, and solution value proposition.
