Two San Marcos, TX Elementary Schools Recognized for National Reading Contest

They love having the opportunity to ear read." ~ Nelda Reyes, teacher A representative from Learning Ally traveled to San Marcos, TX last week for award ceremonies at two elementary Winnersschools—Crockett and De Zavala—to recognize some outstanding students and their teachers. Over a period of seven weeks, beginning in January, almost 5,000 students in 300 schools across the country competed in the nonprofit organization Learning Ally’s annual Great Reading Games national reading contest. Winners were announced on Read Across America Day on March 2. San Marcos CISD was proud to learn that Crockett and De Zavala were in the top three schools in the country. In fact, Crockett earned the 2nd place honors, and De Zavala earned 3rd place. In addition, several students in both schools were in the top 10 readers in the country in the contest.
