"Get Caught Listening"

Categories: Audiobook Library

school classroom We're already halfway into National Audiobook Month. The theme for this month – “Let’s Get Caught Listening” – is a core method that thousands of students use to read all kinds of titles from the RFB&D library. From listening to CDs inside the classroom and out, to our downloadable audio, members can listen at their own speed, when and where they want to. This month, and all throughout the year, we celebrate our remarkable community of volunteers who dedicate countless hours of their time recording textbooks and literature. A human voice connection from reader to member brings everything from biology to vampires alive for the listener. Snippets of our wonderful volunteers reading RFB&D books can be found here. Listening is a skill requiring time and attention, capacities strained by hectic modern culture. Teachers, both general and special ed., look for ways to teach their students this valuable skill, so critical to following directions and pulling in information from television, video and other sources. Through our Learning Through Listening site, tools for learning by listening, tips for effective listeners, and much more has been posted to assist teachers in the classroom. See the full section on learning by listening. Let’s get caught listening as summer approaches! The tremendous depth of RFB&D’s audiobook library is on display with frequently updated booklists targeting a panoply of interests. Right now, we’re highlighting Summer Fun Reading, Current Events (with informational titles on oil and the energy crisis relating to the Gulf oil spill), Career and Job titles and more! - Pam Johnson, RFB&D Director of Library Services
